Plan your 2025 With This Simple Framework
Mandates, Missions, and Moonshots: My Favorite Goal-Setting Framework for 2025
🕰️ Reading time: 3 minutes
Over the Christmas holidays, I discovered a fantastic framework for setting personal and professional goals for 2025
It comes from Andrew Yeung, former product lead at Google and Meta turned entrepreneur and investor.
I applied the framework right away to plan my goals for the year. It’s simple, effective, and easy to implement. Exactly why I loved it.
I thought I’d share it here, especially if you’re still in the mood for a bit of planning. After all, it’s never too late to plan for an epic year.
Mandates, Missions and Moonshots
The idea is to structure your goals into three categories: mandates, missions, and moonshots.
Mandates are your must-dos. Those essential and non-negotiable actions like eating well, exercising, and reading.
Missions are challenging (yet achievable) targets that push the boundaries of your comfort zone. For example, visiting Japan, speaking on stage, or losing weight.
Moonshots are your big, audacious dreams. The ones that feel nearly impossible but might just happen. These could be getting your dream job, selling your company, or reaching 1 million subscribers on your YouTube channel.
Andrew Yeung suggests setting 5 mandates, 3 missions and 1 moonshot.
While I agree with the idea of focusing more as you go bigger (it makes sense to have just one moonshot), I don’t think you need to stick rigidly to those numbers.
If 9 mandates and 2 missions work better for you, go for it.
Some of my goals for 2025
For example, some of my mandates:
Read >20 pages every day
Send 1 newsletter every week
Hit the gym/sweat >2 times a week
One of my missions:
Reach 10k followers on LinkedIn
My Moonshot:
Reach 100k subscribers on Getting Better
How I will make it stick
After finalizing my mandates, missions, and moonshot, I wrote them down on paper. The simple act of writing them made me feel more committed.
To take it a step further, I shared the list with a dear friend. He’s now the "guardian" of my goals, holding me accountable throughout the year.
If you’re looking for a new approach to planning your 2025, give this framework a try, and let me know how it goes!

See you all next Sunday 🗓️

Ohh nice! I think I'll give this framework a try, I'm still in the planning+building part of the year so this is perfect 😊
I like this framework. I usually go with the canva-model (which I talked about in my last 2024 newsletter) for better visualising my goals, but this seems a good pairing for it too!
