I’m all about continuous learning.
I read hundreds of books, academic papers (I read 130+ only for my Master thesis), I listen to hundreds of podcasts hours and completed dozens of online business courses. And I continue to read, listen and study.
For the past 6 years, I contributed to make Deliveroo the #1 food delivery platform in Italy 🇮🇹, climbing the ranks to the role of Head of Finance & Strategy, after having led the Business Operations & Strategy team.
Currently, I am enjoying some time off from the corporate world, while my newborn Olivia 🎀 is teaching me how to get better at many things.
Also, I love to share the things I learn along the way.
Writing here isn't just about sharing - it's my secret sauce for personal growth.
The “learning pyramid” suggests that most people only remember 10% of what they read from textbooks, but retain nearly 90% of what they learn through teaching others.
Now, I’m no teacher, but I believe that “writing to share” (i.e. writing with the objective of creating a piece of knowledge for other people) is the best way for me to keep learning, because it forces me to (1) read better, (2) study better and (3) communicate better. It’s a triple win.
Enters “Getting Better”.
WHAT I WILL WRITE ABOUT
I want to make “Getting Better” the go-to newsletter to grow your career and get better at life.
📝 I will write about frameworks, concepts, stories, ideas and academic research that will help you get better at productivity, team management, negotiation, leadership, communication and strategy.
These are frameworks, tools, research that I studied or directly applied in my professional journey.
Some examples?
What kills our productivity and how to improve it
What causes procrastination and how to beat it
How to negotiate better (a salary, a role, a deal, a project, etc.)
How to run better interviews as a hiring manager, or perform better as an interviewee
What are the biases that make us sub-optimal decision makers and how to fight them
The best goal setting frameworks, and how track and adjust
🎙️ I will also interview senior professionals to validate (or challenge) the theories I will write about, or just to get them share their stories.
This is something I wished existed.
So I’m making it happen.
WHY THIS IS (OR ISN’T) FOR YOU
Getting Better is for the people that constantly want to learn and grow.
Ultimately, it’s a perfect fit if one of these four is true:
🔎 👀 you are extremely curious and always want to learn more
🧭 🚀 you are searching for inspiration to level up your professional career
⚙️ 📈 you aspire to become a better manager, a better leader, a better negotiator, be more productive, etc.
🔓 🧊 you need interesting ice-breakers at the coffee machine
WHEN
🗓️ Every Sunday, at 5pm, CET time. Delivered to your inbox.
P.S. Why “Getting Better”?
Aside from encapsulating the essence of this newsletter, the name is a tribute to my favorite band, The Beatles.
"Getting Better" is their song from the 1967 iconic Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album.
Thanks for sticking around,
Giacomo
